Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, at least in the eyes of America, into the class of child prodigies. This was a natural trait to a person born in Ireland. by talented parents and a loving, supportive family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing athletic games. This interest was combined with the natural ability to perform. This was apparent when she was awarded each Feis in drama and theatre that Ireland had to offer. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she was able to fulfill her goals of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
